RALEIGH, N.C. - Redshirt junior quarterback Ryan Finley has been named a candidate for the 2017 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award®, which is presented at the end of each football season and based on a student-athlete's accomplishments both on and off the field.
Â
"Ryan didn't get a whole lot of recognition last season for posting some of the best passing numbers in school history," said head coach Dave Doeren. "He has developed so much over the past year and I can't wait to see him in action after watching him grind this offseason."
Â
After one season with NC State, Finley already ranks 15th in school history in career passing yards and is tied for 14th in touchdown throws. His 3,059 yards in 2016 was the sixth-best mark in school history and the highest passing total ever for a Wolfpack sophomore.
Â
Finley's 18 touchdown throws last season ties as the 11th-best single-season mark in school history and his 3,153 yards of total offense ranked seventh on the single-season list.
Â
The Golden Arm Award recognizes character, citizenship, integrity, leadership, and sportsmanship, as well as on-the-field performance. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the award. The Golden Arm Award is the only college football award that boasts 10 previous recipients still competing in the NFL.Â
