Wolfpack to take 11-day foreign tour
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team is set for the program's first international trip, as the squad will leave for Italy this afternoon. The Wolfpack will tour the country for 11 days, returning to Raleigh on June 21.
NC State will start its trip in Rome, before visiting Florence, Pisa, Milan and concluding the trip in Venice. The Pack is slated to play five matches during its tenure in Italy.
"First of all, we're incredibly grateful to our administration and parents for supporting our endeavors to make this trip happen," said Wolfpack head coach Linda Hampton-Keith. "This was a lofty goal to make this trip happen in such a short amount of time and our staff did a tremendous job in working hard to make this a reality.
"We're very excited for the opportunity to compete at a high level against some great teams. We look forward to the growth our team will experience in Italy. This is a huge step forward in the development of our program!"
The NCAA allows teams to compete prior to the start of the regular season through competition during an international trip. With eight freshmen and transfer student-athletes new to the program for the 2017 season, Hampton-Keith and her staff wanted to take full advantage of this opportunity to develop as a team before the season begins.
NC State will depart campus at noon today and fly to Rome, Italy, and is slated to arrive early Sunday morning. The Wolfpack's first match will be Monday evening against Aprila Volleyball Club. On Wednesday, June 14, NCSU will leave Rome traveling to Florence and Pisa.
Thursday evening NC State will play a match in Pisa before heading to Milan on Friday, June 16. The Pack will play the Italian Federation Team on Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18 in Milan.
NCSU's last match of the tour will be Tuesday evening, June 20, versus Aduna Volleyball B1 in Venice. The squad will leave Venice heading back to Raleigh on Wednesday, June 21.
