Wolfpack takes series against top-15 opponent
Â
The Wolfpack has now won 13 of its last 14 games and extends its Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) winning streak to eight games. NC State moves to 33-21 overall and 16-13 in league action, while Clemson falls to 38-17 with an identical mark in conference play (16-13).
Â
Junior pitcher Brian Brown picked up the win for the Pack with six innings pitched, allowing just one earned run. He struck out six batters in the contest and has now reached that mark in each of his last four starts. For the second consecutive game, Sean Adler recorded the save as he retired the final two batters to seal the win.
Â
Clemson starter Alex Eubanks was hit with the loss after tossing six innings, yielding seven hits and five earned runs to go along with seven strikeouts.
Â
The Tigers struck first in the contest, but the Wolfpack responded with four unanswered runs to take a 4-1 lead at the end of the fourth. Evan Mendoza smashed a three-run homer to provide the offense for NC State in the frame, as he tallied his fifth round-tripper to the deepest part of the ballpark in center field.

Â
Clemson plated a run in the top of the sixth and the NC State countered with a run in the seventh to maintain the three-run advantage. After an RBI single by Andrew Cox to plate the run for the Tigers, junior Brock Deatherage launched a solo homer to deep right field, his third of the year, to give the Wolfpack its fifth run of the game.
Â
Over the final two innings, the teams combined for 15 runs as NC State scored seven in the bottom of the eighth and Clemson tallied eight in the top of the ninth. Will Wilson had the big hit in the inning with an inside the park grand slam. He drove the first pitch of his at-bat to deep center field and the Clemson outfielder dove for it, but was unable to make the play so Wilson circled the bases for the first inside the park homer of the season for NC State.
