Wolfpack to take program’s first-ever foreign tour
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team will take the program's first-ever international trip this summer when the Wolfpack travels to Italy. Exactly one month away, NC State will depart for the 11-day tour of Italy on June 10 and return to Raleigh on June 21.
Â
"First of all, we're incredibly grateful to our administration and parents for supporting our endeavors to make this trip happen," said Wolfpack head coach Linda Hampton-Keith. "This was a lofty goal to make this trip happen in such a short amount of time and our staff did a tremendous job in working hard to make this a reality.
"We're very excited for the opportunity to compete at a high level against some great teams. We look forward to the growth our team will experience in Italy. This is a huge step forward in the development of our program!"
Â
The NCAA allows teams to compete prior to the start of the regular season through competition during an international trip. With eight freshmen and transfer student-athletes new to the program for the 2017 season, Hampton-Keith and her staff wanted to take full advantage of this opportunity to develop as a team before the season begins.
Â
NC State will start the trip in Rome before traveling to Florence, Pisa and Milan prior to concluding the experience in Venice. The Wolfpack will play a total of five matches during its tour of Italy.
Â
The Wolfpack ended the 2016 season with a 20-12 overall record and a 13-7 mark in ACC play, breaking the program record for conference wins in a season. Predicted to finish 12th in the conference, first-year head coach Hampton-Keith's squad ended the year in a tie for sixth place.
