NC State Falls in Heartbreaker to Louisville

RALEIGH, N.C. – In a match that came down to the tiebreaker in the final set of the final singles match, The NC State men's tennis team fell to No. 40 Louisville 4-3 on Friday night at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.

NC State moves to 12-11 (3-5 ACC) with the result, while Louisville moves to 18-4 (5-2 ACC).

"Our team came out and battled really hard like they have been doing for the last month," said head coach Jon Choboy. "We put ourselves in position to win."

"I'll take our team any day of the week. Hopefully our team is motivated from the match. I'm proud of my guys."

Match Recap:
Louisville claimed the first two points of the match after taking the doubles point and a straight-set match on court six. The Wolfpack responded quickly to erase Louisville's lead and tie the match.

Igor Saveljic opened the scoring with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court three and No. 116 Alexis Galarneau added a 7-6, 6-0 win over No. 114 Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff to tie the match.

All three of the remaining courts were sent to three sets, as Nick Horton battled back from a first-set deficit to force a third set and Louisville won second sets on courts four and five.

Georgiy Malyshev picked up a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win over George Hedley to give NC State a 3-2 advantage, but Louisville countered to re-tie the match with a three-set win at No. 5 singles.

The final match was sent to a tiebreak where Louisville ultimately won, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6.

NC State will be back in action next Friday, as it welcomes Miami to the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
