NC State battles back from 3-2 deficit to win match over Virginia Tech

ROME, Ga. – The NC State men's tennis team picked up a 4-3 victory over Virginia Tech in exciting fashion to open its journey at the 2017 ACC Championship Thursday afternoon at the Rome Tennis Center.

Trailing 3-2 late in the match, the Wolfpack (14-14) collected crucial singles victories from Igor Saveljic (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) and Alexis Galarneau (6-7, 6-3, 6-3) to earn the win and a Friday quarterfinal match against No. 1 Wake Forest.

In doubles action, NC State's pair of Michael Ogden and Alexis Galarneau fell 6-2 to Jai Corbett and Henrik Korsgaard. Nick Horton and Georgiy Malyshev responded with a 6-3 win over Mitch Harper and Alexandre Ribeiro before Igor and Ivan Saveljic grabbed the doubles point for the Wolfpack with a 7-6 (7-5) win over Jason Kros and Freddy Mesmer.

NC State increased its lead to 2-0 when Ivan Saveljic defeated Feliksas Sakalauskas 6-4, 7-6 (7-1). The Hokies then grabbed three straight wins to take a 3-2 lead with just two courts remaining. Igor Saveljic defeated Henrik Korsgaard in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, to pull the match level at 3-3. Galarneau then earned the decisive victory, defeating Jai Corbett 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.
