Softball Falls To No. 19/19 Vols In Game Two Of Weekend Series

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The NC State softball team fell to No. 19/19 Tennessee, 16-2, on Saturday afternoon in its second of a three-game series at the Sheri Parker Lee Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Wolfpack moves to 12-23 and the Volunteers improve to 30-5 on the season.
Game Rewind
-The Pack took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on Macauley Prickett's RBI single to left field. Alyssa Compton led off the inning with a single through the left field gap and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Cheyenne Balzer. Brittany Nimmo and Haley Finn were both walked to load the bases.
-UT quickly gained a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the frame on a three-run homer by Scarlet McSwain. The Vols plated three more runs on an error, RBI single to right field and RBI double to left field.
-Tennessee extended its lead to 8-1 in the third inning. Chelsea Seggern led off with a home run to center field, and McSwain scored from third on a pickoff at second base.
-NC State plated its second run of the game in the fourth. Balzer led off the frame with a triple up the right field line, her first of the year, and scored on Molly Martin's two-out single down the left field line.
-The Vols tacked on eight runs in the bottom of the inning. Megan Geer plated the first one on an RBI groundout to second base by Seggern. Savannah Huffstetler drew a walk with the bases loaded to extend the lead to eight. A 3-RBI double to left center by Brooke Vines gave UT a 13-2 lead, and Vines scored on Meghan Gregg's double to left center. The next two runs were plated on a walk and hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.
-Nimmo earned the start in the circle, and Harli Hubbard came in to relieve in the third inning.
On Deck
NC State will play its final game of the weekend series with the Volunteers Sunday. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. at the Sherri Park Lee Stadium.
