RALEIGH – The NC State men's soccer team has added transfer defender Christoph Schneuwly to its roster in advance of the 2017 season, head coach George Kiefer announced Monday.
"I'm really excited to be bringing Tyler Junior College player Christoph Schneuwly into the NC State locker room," Kiefer said. "Christoph is not only the Scholar Athlete of the Year, but also a First Team All-American. He has been immersed in an environment that teaches young men to be successful both on the field and in the classroom. I like to surround myself with people that have an understanding of what it takes to win matches, and Christoph understands that.
"In my opinion, if you're a top player with a desire to earn a college degree and play professional soccer who gets an opportunity to play in the ACC, you should take that opportunity. The ACC puts you on such a platform that if you perform well in this conference, you are sure to be a professional player. I'm very excited that Christoph accepted this opportunity."
Named an NSCAA Scholar All-American and Scholar-Athlete of the Year following the 2016 season, Schneuwly comes from the highly successful Tyler Junior College men's soccer program that went a perfect 24-0-0 en route to claiming the 2016 NJCAA National Championship on November 19. With a very strong defensive unit led by Schneuwly, the Tyler Junior College Apaches conceded just nine goals throughout the entire season.
During the 2015 season, the Schmitten, Switzerland native helped lead his side to a 19-4-0 record. The Apaches advanced to the NJCAA National Championship that season as well, falling in double overtime to Louisburg College.
Schneuwly will join the Wolfpack as a junior for the 2017 season.
