Wolfpack head coach to assume role as education and publications representative
LEXINGTON, Ky. – NC State volleyball head coach Linda Hampton-Keith has been selected to serve on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Board of Directors, announced Wednesday by the organization. Now in her second season, Hampton-Keith will assume the role of Education and Publications Representative.
Â
"I'm looking forward to serving the continued development of the sport we love and partnering with those who work so hard on our behalf, for us all to maximize opportunities to be the best coaches we can be," said Hampton-Keith.
Â
The AVCA Board of Directors is composed of active coaches and administrators spanning nearly every level of the sport. Most of the AVCA and the sport's success over the years can be traced to the work and decisions the board of directors have made.
Â
The board works on three-year rotations and is an elected position. Hampton-Keith is slated to occupy the position until December 31, 2019.
Â
Stephanie Castera of the Ohio Valley Conference was tabbed an at-large representative and Michigan State's Cathy George was selected as the awards representative for the AVCA.
Â
"Whenever I feel anxious about the challenges ahead for volleyball, I look at the quality and depth of talent on the AVCA Board of Directors and think, 'bring it on!" said AVCA Executive Director, Kathy DeBoer. "Stephanie, Cathy and Linda add even more skills to an already capable and dedicated group of leaders."
Â
Hampton-Keith and her staff made an immediate impact on the NC State volleyball program, as the 2016 Wolfpack reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since 2013. Additionally, the Pack broke the program record with 13 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) wins.
Â
Under her leadership, NC State landed two student-athletes on the AVCA All-Region Team and two athletes were named to the All-ACC Team.
Â
The Wolfpack earned its first top-10 win in program history at Florida State on Nov. 4, 2016 in Tallahassee. It was also the first time FSU has lost at home while ranked among the top 10, snapping a streak of 19 consecutive wins.
Â
She and her staff accomplished numerous program firsts during their first season in Raleigh and look to build on that for the future.
