AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 17/17 NC State women's basketball team (23-9) dropped an 84-80 heartbreaker at No. 14/15 Texas in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 Sunday afternoon inside the Frank Erwin Center.
In a game that featured eight ties and five lead changes, the Wolfpack appeared to have hit what could have been the Sweet-16 clinching basket when Dominique Wilson scored through contact with eight seconds remaining and the Wolfpack trailing 81-80. Instead of giving NC State an 82-81 lead and the chance at a three-point play, the play was judged to be an offensive foul. Texas (25-8) then hit one free throw at the other end on its next possession and scored a put-back basket with five seconds remaining to bring the game to the final score of 84-80.

Texas was led by 23 points from Brooke McCarty. She was joined in double figures by Joyner Holmes (16 points), Lashann Higgs (12), and Alecia Sutton (10). The Longhorns were very strong on the glass, winning the rebounding battle by a 41-28 margin.
NC State battled back from a 28-15 deficit in the first quarter to outscore Texas 45-27 during the second and third quarters to carry a 60-55 lead into the final 10 minutes of the contest.
