Three from Wolfpack Earn Men’s Soccer ACC All-Academic Status

Blotko, Duchscherer, and McCauley recognized for strong academic performances

RALEIGH – Rising juniors Simon Blotko and Julius Duchscherer and redshirt senior Alex McCauley have been named to the 2016 All-ACC Academic Men's Soccer Team, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
McCauley completes his career having earned this honor three times. Duchscherer is earning it for the second time during a season in which he also earned CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American status.
Simon Blotko's 2016 season: Team captain … Started all 17 of NC State's matches during the 2016 season, playing a total of 1506 minutes … Recorded a team-high five assists on the season … His five assists came in matches against North Florida (Sept. 4), Wright State (Sept. 27), Duke (Sept. 30), No. 26/21 UNCW (Oct. 19), and Boston College (Oct. 29) … Recorded three total shots from a defensive position, one of which was on target.
Julius Duchscherer's 2016 season: CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American … All-ACC Second Team … Appeared in all 17 matches for the Wolfpack, making 16 starts … Scored a team-high nine goals (T4th in ACC) and dished out four assists (T2nd on team) … Two of his goals were match-winners: Oct. 15 vs. Pittsburgh and Oct. 19 vs. No. 26/21 UNCW … His goal at UNCW was featured on Fox Soccer's "At the Buzzer" segment and surpassed 134,000 views … Recorded two multi-goal matches: Sept. 27 vs. Wright State and Oct. 15 vs. Pittsburgh … Finished first on the team with 50 total shots, 26 of which were on target … Only earned one yellow card in 1247 minutes of play … Was 2-3 from the penalty spot … Recorded a season-high seven shots in an overtime loss to High Point on Oct. 11.
Alex McCauley's 2016 season: Team captain … Appeared in 16 of the team's 17 matches, all starts … Recorded two shutouts in wins over Pittsburgh and No. 26/21 UNCW … Posted a record of 5-11-0 … Made 38 saves on the year and allowed 30 goals … Played 1444 minutes and 25 seconds throughout the season and earned a GAA of 1.87 … Made a season-high seven saves at No. 5 Clemson on Oct. 8 … Ends his career with 157 saves to rank ninth in program history.
About the ACC All-Academic Team
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
