Vazaios Earns ACC, National Swimmer of the Week Honors

Held, Witzke named Conference Swimmer of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C.— Three from the NC State swim team received weekly honors after their performances at the Janis Hape Dowd Carolina College Nike Invitational last weekend.
Andreas Vazaios was named the ACC Co-Male Swimmer of the Week after a pair of first place and second place finishes at the invite. The Athens, Greece, native won both the 200 individual medley (1:44.43) and the 200 butterfly (1:43.46), posting the fastest times in the league this season. He was runner-up in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 46.90, a time that ranks 30th nationally. Vazaios also led off the 400 freestyle relay, splitting 43.51 which is the sixth fastest time in the ACC this season.
His times in the 200 fly, 200 IM and 100 free also set the Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion (Duke) pool records, while all four of his times are NCAA 'B' cuts.
Vazaios was also garnered CollegeSwimming.com's National Swimmer of the Week for his performances.
Ryan Held and Maddie Witzke were named CollegeSwimming.com's Conference Swimmers of the Week. Held won the men's 100 butterfly in 46.55 to meet the NCAA 'B' standard. In the morning session, Held broke both the meet and pool record with a time of 46.41.
Posting a lifetime best, Witzke won the women's 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.42. She later lowered that time in a time trial, finishing in 1:02.21, marking the third fastest time in program history. In the women's 200 breast, the senior finished 10th in the morning session, touching the wall in 2:24.22. Additionally, Witzke anchored the 400 free relay that finished second in 3:36.83, splitting 51.85. She recorded another lifetime best in the 50 free with a time of 23.47.
