Wolfpack duo to make second consecutive trip to championships
INDIANAPOLIS – NC State rifle's Caitlyn Ford and Lucas Kozeniesky have been selected to compete as individuals in the 2017 NCAA Rifle Championships, announced Wednesday on the NCAA Selection Show.
Â
It marks the second consecutive year that the two Wolfpack shooters have been selected to participate in the NCAA Championships, as Kozeniesky finished fifth in the air rifle event last season and Ford claimed seventh.
Â
The 2017 championships will be held March 10-11 with the air rifle competition set to get underway at 9:45 a.m. Saturday (March 11) hosted by The Ohio State at the French Field House.
Â
Ford owns an air rifle season average of 584.4 highlighted by a season-high score of 593 fired at the NCAA Qualifier last weekend. The Fairfax Station, Va., native owns nine perfect series on the season, headlined by three in her last outing.
Â
Kozeniesky, who competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in air rifle and fired the top American score, has a team-best 594.8 season average, which ranks fifth in the NCAA, in the discipline. He broke the program record with a score of 599, just one shy of a perfect score, in the Wolfpack's win against Memphis fired at OSU's rifle range on Nov. 12, 2016.
Â
Unfortunately, the Wolfpack was not selected as a team after finishing 9th in the final team rankings, one spot shy of earning a team bid to the NCAA Championships. NC State will next be in action this weekend at the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships hosted by Akron.
