Wolfpack Falls To No. 11/10 Michigan On First Day Of ACC/B1G Challenge

RALEIGH — No. 11/10 Michigan belted five home runs, including three by senior centerfielder Kelly Christner, against host NC State and recorded a 12-0 victory Friday on the opening day of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Dail Stadium.

-The Wolverines opened the game with a pair of high choppers, followed by an infield error to load the bases, against Wolfpack starting pitcher Brittany Nimmo. Tera Blanco's sacrifice fly scored leadoff hitter Natalie Peters with the first run of the game and Wolverines slugger Lindsay Montemarano belted a three-run homer to give her team a 4-0 lead.
-Michigan loaded the bases again in the top of the second with one out, with a pair of singles and a hit batter, and Christner followed with the second grand slam of her career. A solo homer by Aidan Falk ended starting pitcher Brittany Nimmo's day in the circle and gave the Wolverines a 9-0 lead.
-Junior Harli Hubbard relieved Nimmo, allowing a solo homer and a two-run homer to Christner. Nimmo stayed in the game at third base and smacked her second double of the season with a line drive to left field.
-Christner became just the second person in program history to hit three homers in a game. She had a second-inning grand-slam, a fourth-inning solo shot and a fifth-inning two-run homer to drive in seven runs in the game.
-Michigan starting pitcher Megan Betsa allowed just one hit and struck out nine in the game.
-In the opening game of the three-day event, No. 13 Minnesota toppled Notre Dame 4-1.
Up Next
The four teams will play a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch both days are at 10 a.m. Tickets for all games each day are $7 for adults, $5 for youth 17 under.
