Wolfpack Places Five on Freshman Top 100 List

RALEIGH – Five freshmen on the NC State men's soccer team have been named to the Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Top 100 List, the organization announced recently. Manny Perez (No. 2), David Loera (No. 13), Leon Krapf (No. 61), David Norris (No. 79), and Brad Sweeney (No. 97) all made the cut after helping to lead the Wolfpack to a terrific 2017 season.

United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Second Team … Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI First Team … ACC Freshman of the Year … All ACC Second Team … ACC All-Freshman Team … NCAA Player of the Week and Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week on Sept. 12/13 … Led the Wolfpack in goals scored (5), match-winning goals (3), and points (14) … Finished second on the team in assists (4) … Scored three goals in the first three matches of his college career, two of which were match winners (Florida Atlantic and No. 3/5 Clemson) … Scored two goals, including the match winner, during NC State's 3-2 win at No. 5/9 Louisville on Oct. 21.

Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI Second Team … ACC All-Freshman Team … An integral piece of the NC State midfield during the 2017 season, leading the team in assists (5) while also scoring one goal … Started all 18 matches of his debut season and recorded two multi-assist matches, distributing two in wins over UNC Asheville (Sept. 26) and at No. 5/9 Louisville (Oct. 21).
Leon Krapf | GK | Gochsheim, Germany
Started all 18 matches of the season and played every minute in goal as a freshman … Made 43 saves and allowed just 20 goals all season … Posted a save percentage of .683 and a goals against average of 1.06 … Ranked 32nd nationally and second in the ACC with seven clean sheets … Backstopped a very strong defensive unit that ranked 63rd nationally out of 205 teams in goals allowed per match … Made a career high five saves in an overtime draw at Elon on Sept. 19 … Earned three clean sheets in ACC play (Sept. 8 vs. No. 3 Clemson, Oct. 13 vs. No. 10 Virginia, and Oct. 27 vs. Boston College).
David Norris | D | Winter Park, Fla.
Started all 18 matches of the season … Played an important role on a defense that allowed just 1.05 goals per match to rank 63rd nationally of 205 teams … Registered eight total shots from a defensive position, one of which was on target … Scored the first goal of his career in a match against LIU Brooklyn that was ultimately cancelled due to weather … Only received one yellow card in 1,677 minutes on the field.
Brad Sweeney | M | Birmingham, England
Started 17 of 18 matches as a freshman in the midfield … Distributed one assist each match in wins over Florida Atlantic (Aug. 25) and Longwood (Sept. 10) … Played a total of 1,508 minutes during his debut season for the Wolfpack … Recorded 10 total shots from a defensive midfield position … Played a large role on a strong defensive team that allowed just 1.05 goals per match to rank 63rd nationally of 205 teams.
