Wolfpack Collects Three Additional Postseason Awards

Freshmen Manny Perez and David Loera add to their list of recognitions

RALEIGH – Freshmen Manny Perez and David Loera of the NC State men's soccer team added to their already impressive list of postseason awards recently. Perez was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Second Team and the TopDrawerSoccer Freshman Best XI First Team, while classmate Loera earned a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer Freshman Best XI Second Team.
This news comes not long after the pair also earned honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Perez was named ACC Freshman of the Year, earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team, and claimed the only place by a first-year player on the All-ACC Second Team. Loera was also named to the All-Freshman Team as well.
Perez led the Wolfpack in goals scored (5), match-winning goals (3), and points (14). He finished the season second on the team in assists (4). The freshman scored three goals in the first three matches of his college career, two of which were match winners (Florida Atlantic and No. 3/5 Clemson). He then scored two goals, included the match winner, during NC State's 3-2 win at No. 5/9 Louisville on October 21. He was named the NCAA Player of the Week on Sept. 12 and earned TopDrawerSoccer National Player of the Week honors on Oct. 24. He also earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors on that same day.
Loera was an integral piece of the NC State midfield during the 2017 season, as he led the team in assists (5) and scored one goal. He started all 18 matches of his debut season and recorded two multi-assist matches, distributing two in wins over UNC Asheville (Sept. 26) and at No. 5/9 Louisville (Oct. 21).
NC State's historic first season under new head coach George Kiefer and his staff came to an end after achieving a number of firsts. The team qualified for its first NCAA Championship since 2009 and hosted the first ACC Championship first-round match at Dail Soccer Stadium in program history. Despite a preseason prediction of 11th, the Wolfpack tied for seventh in the ACC standings and knocked off two top-five teams throughout the year.
