Pack Suffers First Home Loss of Season to UNCG, 81-76

NC State moves to 8-3 on the year following Saturday's defeat.
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Pack suffered its first home loss of the season Saturday afternoon as the UNCG Spartans downed NC State, 81-76, at PNC Arena. NC State drops to 8-3 overall in its first season under head coach Kevin Keatts.
The Spartans knocked down 12-of-24 three-pointers in UNCG's first-ever win over the Wolfpack. The 12 made treys and .500 three-point field goal percentage were both season-best marks by an NC State opponent this season.
Allerik Freeman led the Pack in scoring for the fifth time this season, dropping 17 points. Freeman has scored in double figures in all 11 games this season. Lennard Freeman added 16 points on a perfect 6-of-6 mark from the field, while grabbing a team-high seven boards for NC State. Braxton Beverly also notched 16 points for the Pack and led all players with eight assists on the afternoon.
The Pack controlled the game early, leading by as much as 14 during the first half. Trailing 31-17, UNCG went on an 18-3 run to takes its first lead of the game, 35-34, with 2:13 remaining in the period. Allerik Freeman hit a buzzer-beating layup to give NC State a 40-38 advantage at the break.
UNCG forward Marvin Smith opened the half with a three-pointer that started a 20-3 run for the Spartans. UNCG built its lead as high as 15 points in the second period, but NC State would not go down without a fight. The Pack pulled within three points of the Spartans following three-straight made free throws by Allerik Freeman with 11 seconds remaining, but could not overcome the deficit.

Up next, NC State is set to host the Robert Morris Colonials on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at PNC Arena.
