RALEIGH – NC State softball head coach Shawn Rychcik has announced the program's 2018 schedule which features 35 games against teams that finished in the top 100 of the NCAA RPI, including 12 against 2017 NCAA Tournament teams. 34 of the Wolfpack's games will be contested at Dail Softball Stadium, as there are three first-time opponents on its slate.
"We're excited about the schedule that we've put together for the 2018 season," said Rychcik. "Our competitive nonconference schedule will help us to prepare for our conference slate and postseason play. More than half of our roster is made up of underclassmen, so this schedule will help to give our team as a whole some good experience as the season goes on."
Rychcik heads into his sixth season at the helm of the Pack with a 150-131-1 record. He has led the program to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including the program's first NCAA Super Regional in 2015.
NC State returns 11 players from last year's roster, including All-ACC Second Team selection Jade Caraway. The coaching staff has additionally brought in six freshmen that were listed as the No. 19 recruiting class by FloSoftball, as well as sophomore transfers Devin Wallace and Angie Rizzi.
NC State will open up its season at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament Feb. 9-11, and is slated to face Georgetown, Florida Gulf Coast, Long Island, Ball State and Memphis.
For the third consecutive year the Wolfpack will play host to the ACC/B1G Challenge Feb. 16-18 when it welcomes Louisville, Ohio State and Northwestern to Dail Softball Stadium for its first weekend of competition at home. NC State and Louisville will play the Buckeyes and Wildcats twice apiece, but not each other in the tournament.
NC State will host two more tournaments in Raleigh, the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Invitational (Feb. 23-25) and Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Challenge (March 23-25). Both tournaments will be in a round-robin format with a champion to be named on the final day.
Other nonconference matchups include Elon (Feb. 21), at UNCW (Feb. 28), at Winthrop (March 6), at Gardner-Webb (March 7), Charlotte (March 21), 2017 ASUN Conference champion USC Upstate (March 27), at Liberty (April 4), Campbell (April 11), Duke (April 18), at East Carolina (April 25) and a three-game series with UNCG at home (April 28-29).
The team's home ACC schedule includes Pittsburgh (March 2-4), Notre Dame (March 10-11), Boston College (April 6-8) and reigning conference champion Florida State (May 4-6), while its conference road slate consists of trips to Georgia Tech (March 16-18), Louisville (March 30-31), UNC-Chapel Hill (April 13-15) and Syracuse (April 20-22).
Georgia Tech will host the 2018 ACC Championship May 10-12 at Mewborn Field.
Season tickets are on sale now, and are $50 for adults and $25 for seniors/youth.
