Chubb Named Finalist for Bednarik Award

RALEIGH, N.C. -Â Wolfpack senior defensive end Bradley Chubb has been named a finalist for the 23rd Chuck Bednarik Award, presented annually to the outstanding defensive player of the year by the Maxwell Football Club. He joins Alabama DB Minkah Fitzpatrick and Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith as a finalist.
A semifinalist for the The Walter Camp Football Foundation 2017 Player of the Year award and a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chubb ranks second in the FBS in tackles for loss this week. He has set new NC State career records for career tackles for loss and sacks and now boasts 58 TFL and 26 sacks for his career. Those numbers rank sixth (TFL) and t18th (sacks) in ACC history.
A three-time ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week in 2017 (vs. Florida State, Syracuse and Boston College) has played 87% of the defensive snaps vs. ACC competition this year. He was named a midseason All-American by AP, ESPN, CBS, Fox Sports, Sports Illustrated, Sporting News, USA Today and The Athletic. Mark Schlabaugh of ESPN named him the Midseason national defensive player of the year and he was a unanimous choice of SI and CBS.
The winners of the 81st Maxwell Award and the 23rd Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 7, 2017. The formal presentation of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club's Awards Gala which will be held at the Tropicana Casino Resort in Atlantic City, NJ on Friday March 9, 2018.
Voting for both of the collegiate awards presented by the Maxwell Football Club will begin on Tues., Nov. 21 and close Sun. Dec. 3. Eligible voters include Maxwell Football Club.
