"Solid day for our program today," said head coach Braden Holloway. "It was a long day today and probably the toughest day with the 800 free relay being at the end and some of these kids are doing multiple events with that relay; some of them are doing the 200 free multiple times. I think the bookend of our day with the relays were pretty good for us. We ran out of gas on the 800 free relay a little at the end, probably would have liked to of seen both relays do a little better but with the amount of events some of those individuals swam during the day, it was a pretty good end with the 800 free relays.
I think we started off the meet pretty well tonight; 200 medley relays on both ends, posting some pretty good victories and picking up some more NCAA Provisional times is always a good thing. There were some really outstanding performances, Hannah Moore picking up a time that's made NCAA's was a great start to the 400 IM and she led a group of 400 IM'ers on the women's side that were spectacular today especially with Julia Poole and Kathleen Moore, two freshmen, really stepping it up in the 400 IM. I felt like we had some tough swims today; Elise Haan had a pretty big day doing the 200 free, 100 back double and obviously she was on both relays, it was pure toughness. I'm proud of the freshmen, a lot of the youth we had in the breaststroke on the women's side had some pretty good 100's today so I feel good about the future with their development. Krista Duffield continues to have a great meet; the 100 fly today was a pretty good swim for her. Obviously we want to continue to get better in multiple aspects, we had some individuals hit some best times today, but we need to continue to strive for it and get more people in the A and B final to get those points. That's something that we hope to do tomorrow morning.
On the men's side, some pretty big swims today by Justin Ress, Andreas Vazaios, Jacob Molacek, Daniel Graber, some pretty big performances across the board. Obviously Ryan Held in the 100 fly was big but I think starting off the meet, getting a big swim and a big team win. It was a close race in 400 IM, it came down to the wire so I think Anton getting his hand on the wall is great. It helps keep some momentum going, I think our backstroke group had a huge day. After the morning we had six gentlemen in the top eight. Obviously we scratched a few guys to have a few fresh for the 800 free relay at the end but I'm pretty encouraged by the production out of that group. Across the board the guys continue to step up and I'm looking for some new faces to continue to grow in our program, we're starting to see that happen. Some are juniors, some are sophomores and a few are just freshmen. I want to see us close out the meet strong tomorrow morning. They're going to be tired but everyone's dealing with the same factors of a grueling meet. I want to see us start the morning as best we can and put us in a position to score points at night."
Diving
"Diving is an up and down sport," said diving coach Yahya Radman. "Literally and figuratively. Yesterday day we were on fire, today we were not. Madeline and Stu battled hard but fell just short of the final. It's all in the details and we have overlooked too many details and it showed. Tomorrow is new. I challenge our kids to be better and ready because every other team will be."
