"Obviously we're here in a great team environment with a bunch of good teams here, we're in a great team battle on both sides," said head coach Braden Holloway. "Some of our goals at this meet are to compete, to learn and to continue our season progression. We want to learn and be better each day and then hopefully pick up some NCAA qualifying times that we feel pretty good about, pick up some provisional qualifying times in relays so we can put more people in position to make the NCAA Championships in March and I felt like we did that today.
It was a pretty slow morning for us and I was a little disappointed in how we came out and I challenged them with energy and setting the tone right out of the gates tonight and we did that. Our relays today were pretty good; our guys have a lot of depth across the board with multiple relays as we wanted to see how good our range could be. With the women, a lot of our relays were quicker than last year with a younger team. I felt pretty confident and felt good about that. We had some really great swims and dives today; James Brady on one-meter was great getting third and had the best meet of the season so far and we also got some people qualified to go to NCAAs. Anton almost had an 'A' cut in the 500 free and between Andreas, Ryan Held, Ky-lee Perry, Elise Haan and probably the big one today was Julia Poole, a freshman, in the 200 IM getting a time that's gone to NCAAs each year so it was a great swim for her and one that got our team pumped up and excited.
Obviously at a meet in November you're going to have a mixed bag; you kind of back off intensity for a few days. Some bodies are going to feel great, some bodies are going to still feel tired, some bodies are going to be changing every day so the big thing is getting up, racing and competing no matter what, never giving up and learning from your experience and making adjustments. Tomorrow morning creates a new challenge for us to come back and be better in the morning than we were today because we did not have a good morning. We'll see what our team brings going into day two."
Diving
"I think today we had an outstanding day on the diving boards," said diving coach Yahya Radman. "On the women's side, Rachel did a really nice job of putting herself in a position to move up; she's still recovering from injury but I think when she's fully healed we are going to have a fierce competitor on our hands ready for ACC's, Zones and hopefully NCAA's. On the men's side it was a real highlight that three of our men were in the top 15 in the contest. Real nice job by James Brady; he's really coming into his own, dominating on one-meter and outdoing a lot of his former teammates from club who dive at other institutions and I think it shows how far he has come in terms of his role on our team but as well as a guy who can really get It done in an event he is not known for."
