RALEIGH, N.C. - Defensive end Bradley Chubb has been named a semifinalist for The Walter Camp Football Foundation 2017 Player of the Year award, the fourth-oldest college football award in the nation. He is just one of four defensive players on the 15-man list.
Chubb, the FBS leaders in tackles for loss, broke the NC State career records for tackles for loss and sacks in last week's win at Boston College and now boasts 57.5 TFL and 26 sacks for his career. Those numbers ranksixth (TFL) and t18th (sacks) in ACC history.  He leads the ACC and ranks fifth in the FBS in sacks this season.
A three-time ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week in 2017 (vs. Florida State, Syracuse and Boston College) has played 87% of the defensive snaps vs. ACC competition this year (384 of 443). He was named a midseasonAll-American by AP, ESPN, CBS, Fox Sports, Sports Illustrated, Sporting News, USA Today and The Athletic.  Mark Schlabaugh of ESPN named him the Midseason national defensive player of the year and he was aunanimous choice of SI and CBS.
The Walter Camp Player of the Year is voted on by the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.  A list of five finalists will be released on Wednesday, November 29, and the winner will be announced on Thursday, December 7.
Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation (www.waltercamp.org,@WalterCampFF) – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
