Wolfpack senior helped the Wolfpack break the program record for ACC wins
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the third consecutive week, NC State volleyball boasts the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Week as Julia Brown secures this week's honor, announced Monday by the conference office.
Â
The Davidson, N.C., native earns the award for the third time in her distinguished career and first this season. Last week, the Wolfpack's Kaitlyn Kearney claimed the honor and Kylie Pickrell collected the award the previous week.
Â
Brown turned in a fantastic weekend in her final two ACC home matches inside Reynolds Coliseum. She tallied 30 kills on the weekend, averaging 4.29 kills per set, to help NC State (19-8, 14-2 ACC) break the program record for ACC wins with its 14th victory in conference and also conclude its ACC home slate with a perfect 10-0 mark.
Â
Against Clemson last Thursday, she recorded 13 kills on 30 attempts to compile a .300 attacking percentage. Brown collected nine digs in that contest to finish just one shy of tallying her 11th double-double of the season.
Â
In NC State's 3-0 win versus Georgia Tech on Saturday, Brown put on a stellar offensive display on Senior Day with a match-high 17 kills on 41 swings to register a .293 attacking percentage for the match. Saturday's win allowed the 2017 senior class to become the winningest ACC class in program history, as they now own 37 conference wins to eclipse the previous mark of 36.
Â
Additionally, the Wolfpack set the program record for ACC sweeps in a single season with its seventh of the season, after collecting six a season ago.
Â
Brown now owns 374 kills on the year to lead NC State and rank third among the ACC. She surpassed 1,000 career kills earlier this season and owns the third-most career kills by any player in the conference.
Â
Her strong play helped NCSU average 16.00 kills per set for the weekend with 112 kills over the two matches, while limiting opponents to a .154 attacking percentage with only 79 kills. It also helped NC State continue leading the ACC in kills per set this season with 14.40 and total kills with 1,454.
Â
NC State returns to action Friday, Nov. 17, when the Wolfpack travels to Louisville for a matchup between two teams tied for first place in the conference. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. inside Cardinal Arena and the contest will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra.
