Softball Sweeps Doubleheader With Chargers

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team hosted its second doubleheader of the weekend on Saturday afternoon when it welcomed Georgia Highland to Dail Stadium. The Wolfpack dominated both contests, winning the first game 10-2 and the second 6-0.
Game One
NC State got off to a strong start, scoring one run apiece in the first three innings. Jade Caraway got her team on the board first as she scored from third base on Sam Russ's single down the third base line. Haley Finn gave the Pack a 2-0 advantage when she scored from second base on Caraway's single up the middle, and Lily Bishop then homered to left center in the third inning to extend the lead to three.
In the fourth inning the Chargers cut its deficit to two with Kendall Reeves's RBI single to third base, and added another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to left center. The Pack then managed to put up seven runs on one hit in the sixth inning for a 10-2 victory.
NC State collected six hits in the contest. Devin Wallace and Brittany Nimmo pitched three innings apiece and Harli Hubbard closed out the game in the circle.
Game Two
In game two the Pack took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, as Angie Rizzi and Alyssa Compton scored on throwing errors and Cheyenne Balzer crossed home plate after Haylee Kobziak drew a bases-loaded walk.
In the fifth inning Balzer led off with a home run to right center, and in the sixth the squad tacked on two more runs to seal the shutout win. Madeline Curtis brought Finn home after she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Timberlyn Shurbutt scored on Balzer's sacrifice fly to left field.
In the circle Peyton Silverman and Kama Woodall pitched three innings apiece while Wallace threw the final inning. As a team the Pack tallied five hits.
NC State returns to action Oct. 20 when it travels to Campbell for a 10-inning contest. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at the Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
