Julius Duchscherer scores both goals in victory
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Led by two goals from senior captain Julius Duchscherer, the NC State men's soccer team (6-4-1, 2-3-0 ACC) picked up an important 2-1 ACC road win at Syracuse Friday evening.
Freshman goalkeeper Leon Krapf also played a large role in the victory, stopping four Syracuse shots to earn a win that was NC State's first over Syracuse since 1991.
Duchscherer opened the scoring in the match in the seventh minute when he pounced on an opportunity eight yards from goal. Clayton Sparks played in a nice pass to Ade Taiwo, who had a shot blocked by a lunging defender. The ball fell to Duchscherer, who calmly tucked it away before the defense could react.

The Wolfpack doubled its advantage in the 27th minute on Duchscherer's second goal of the evening. A nice build up led to Tanner Roberts running down the side of the penalty area with the ball. He alertly looked up and played it right through to the onrushing senior, who accurately struck it first time low and inside the near post.

Syracuse came out aggressive to start the second half and won a penalty in the 52nd minute when a shot attempt from long range struck the outstretched arm of a Wolfpack defender inside the penalty area. Kamal Miller stepped up to the spot and finished the penalty past Krapf to halve the Wolfpack advantage.
NC State withstood a late push by the Orange during the final few minutes of the match and Krapf made a very important save in the 86th minute on a Mo Adams attempt. The shot came from more than 25 yards out and took a deflection off an NC State defender, but the freshman goalkeeper was able to adjust and make the stop.
