Pack Sophomore selected to preseason list of 20
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's basketball sophomore center Omer Yurtseven was named to the 2018 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award watch list on Friday.
Twenty players were announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday for the award that honors the top center in college basketball.
Yurtseven appeared in 22 games, making 14 starts, for the Pack last season. He averaged 5.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for NC State in his rookie campaign. In his season-debut, he scored 12 points in a win over Appalachian State. He made his first career start and scored a season-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting in a win over Rider on December 28. He recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and a season-best 16 rebounds in a win against Pittsburgh.
This is the second consecutive season Yurtseven has appeared on the initial watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar award.
By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2018 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award will be narrowed down to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. Abdul-Jabbar and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2018 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 6, 2018. Broadcast information will be released at a later date.
