10/14/2017 5:33:00 PM | Women's Soccer
RALEIGH – Highlighted by Tziarra King's pair of goals in the second half, the NC State women's soccer team notched its third conference win of the season with a 3-0 result over Syracuse at Dail Soccer Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The victory marked the program's eighth shutout of the season, as the Wolfpack improves to 10-4-1 (3-3-1 ACC) and the Orange fall to 7-6-2 (2-4-1 ACC).
QUOTING THE TEAM
Head coach Tim Santoro on today's win
"We were complete for the whole game. It was nice to play at home after being on the road for three and a half weeks. We were pretty thorough in every facet of the game the entire 90 minutes, which is what we wanted to do. We have to put together complete games down the stretch."
On third ACC win
"To be .500 in the ACC at this stage of the season is pretty good. We still have three games left and if we play well we can get some more points. We like where we are but feel like there's a lot more left for us to do."
Tziarra King on her two goals in the match
"I always look to improve every year. I got my eighth goal to tie last year and passed it today so that's exciting, but at the end it's just about helping my team. As long as we're getting the results that's what matters."
On looking ahead to last three matches of regular season
"Definitely solid practices and scouting the teams to make sure we know exactly what we need to in each game. Just bring the fire and do everything we need to do to get the win."
HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ricci Walkling tallied the first goal of the match in the 36th minute, as King passed the ball to just above the left corner of the penalty box and she finished the shot inside the far right post. It marked Walkling's fourth tally of the season.
King added goals in the 60th and 82nd minutes, giving her nine this year to rank second in the conference. She scored her first of the match with a shot just above the six-yard box on a double assist by Krissi Schuster and Rachel Cox, as the goalkeeper was out of the net to give her an opening.
King's other goal was on a shot from the left corner of the 18-yard box that curled into the right corner of the net on a Hannah Keogh pass.
The Pack outshot the Orange 16-4 with a .500 shot-on-goal percentage, as King paced the squad with six. 18 players saw time on the field in the match, as Sydney Wootten was only forced to make one save on a shot in the 89th minute by Syracuse's Alex Lamontagne.
UP NEXT
NC State will host Clemson, who is currently receiving votes for the United Soccer Coaches Poll, Oct. 19 in a 7 p.m. matchup, as the contest will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
