Three From Men's Tennis Advance To ITA Carolina Regional Round Of 32

CARY, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team began play at the ITA Carolina Regional at the Cary Tennis Park Friday, registering seven total singles victories during the opening rounds of the tournament. Juniors Georgiy Malyshev, Igor Saveljic, and Ivan Saveljic won two matches each to advance to the Round of 32 in the main draw.
HIGHLIGHTS:
After competing in back-to-back matches Friday, Malyshev, Igor, and Ivan went unbeaten in singles play.
Malyshev defeated David Hager of Davidson 7-6 (3), 6-3 in the first round and took down UNCW's Michael Copeland 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the second round.
Ivan began the tournament on a strong foot. His first round match pitted him against Furman's Jake Bhangdia, whom he beat 6-1, 6-0. He followed that win with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Augustin Savarino of UNCW.
Igor faced UNC-Chapel Hill's Ladd Harrison in his first match of the day. He came from behind in the first set to win it 7-5 and took the second set 6-1. In the second round, the Wolfpack junior earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over UNCW's Michael Morphy.
Freshman Morgan Lohan earned his first collegiate win, easily handling North Carolina Central's Maksym Konovalov 6-1, 6-4 in the first round.
UP NEXT:
Malyshev, Igor, and Ivan resume singles competition, making up three players of the 32 that remain in the main draw. After falling in the first round, Michael Ogden, Collin Shick, and Tristan Smith look to bounce back as they begin play in the back draw.
The Wolfpack will also field four doubles teams. Ogden will pair up with Alexis Galarneau as the draw's No. 1 seed. Igor and Ivan will play together for the fourth match this fall, aiming to continue their success after winning their draw at the Duke James Bonk Invite in September. Malyshev and Shick make up the third Wolfpack duo, with Lohan and Smith teaming up as the fourth pair.
SATURDAY'S SCHEDULE:
Competition continues at the Cary Tennis Park Saturday morning with a full day of matches on slate for the Wolfpack. The back draw of singles will begin first, followed by the Round of 32 in the main draw and two rounds of doubles play. Below are the scheduled start times for the Wolfpack's matches.
