RALEIGH – Stephen Elias of the NC State men's soccer team has been selected to compete at the 2017 World Maccabiah Games in Israel from July 5-17.
A rising redshirt sophomore, Elias appeared in all 17 of the Wolfpack's matches last season, making eight starts and playing a total of 642 minutes. He earned his first career appearance in the season opener against Radford and made his first career start on Sept. 20 in a win over Liberty. Elias dished out three assists on the season and played a career-high 67 minutes in the regular-season finale at Boston College on Oct. 29.
At the competition, Elias' team will represent the United States of America and will play against national teams from Europe, South America, North America, and Australia.
"I am very happy and honored for this opportunity," Elias said. "I was heartbroken to miss the 2013 games due to a knee injury, so this trip is now even more special for me. I am excited to play on an extremely talented team and to help defend the United States' title from the 2013 games in front of my friends and family in Israel."
