NC State Dominates Sunday Doubleheader

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team added another strong performance, winning its fourth and fifth consecutive matches with big wins over Monmouth and Elon. The Pack is now 5-1 on the season. The Pack improves to 8-0 all time against Elon and 1-0 against Monmouth.

"I was pleased to see our team respond in the second match after coming out slow in the first match," said head coach Jon Choboy. "We also improved in doubles and defeated a well-coached Elon team, who won the doubles point against Duke earlier this season. It was good to see us do the things we are supposed to be doing on the court and playing tactically sound. I'm proud of our team and ready to get back to work this week."

"Alexis did a great job of getting off the court early in both matches today. Georgiy also played well and dealt with a tough matchup in the match against Elon. It was good to see him fight through that and win."

Nick Horton and Sean Burnette split their singles matches at the top position. Both dropped close matches against Monmouth before rebounding against Elon.

Igor Saveljic won both matches to post a team-high sixth win this season. The sophomore is undefeated on the season.

Alexis Galarneau, Georgiy Malyshev and Micheal Ogden also added a pair of victories today.

The Pack rolled to an early doubles point with Horton and Galarneau winning at No. 2 doubles and the Saveljic twins clinching the point at No. 1 doubles.

NC State added singles wins at all six spots, as the Pack picked up a solid win over an Elon team that went 17-6 last season.

NC State 5 Monmouth 2
NC State added its fourth-straight win, downing Monmouth 5-2. The Pack took the doubles point and then won four singles matches for the overall victory.

After Ogden and Malyshev won their doubles match on court three and Monmouth took victory at the top doubles spot, Horton and Galarneau won at the second doubles court to clinch the opening point.

In singles play, Galarneau, Saveljic and Malyshev picked up the clinching points with straight set wins. Ogden also added a straight-set win for the team's fourth point of the day.
