WILMINGTON, N.C. - The NC State diving team traveled to Wilmington, N.C., on Saturday afternoon for a tri-meet with UNCW and Gardner-Webb, collecting eight top-three finishes and three season-high marks inside the Seahawk Natatorium.Â
"Overall I'm split down the middle with being pleased about today and going back to the drawing board to see what we need to work on. Practices were great this week and we're coming off of a lot of hard work as we prepare for the championship season," said head diving coach Yahya Radman. "We're at a point in our program development where the eyes of the Wolfpack nation are on us. We have three opportunities to see where the direction of the diving program is heading, and they know the challenge that they face.
"Harrison (Mitchell) did a fine job overall today. He missed one dive on three-meter that cost him first place, but I'm happy with the way he competed. James (Brady) and Stewart (Spanbauer) just couldn't really get warmed up from the get go to do what they needed to do. Bailey (Revels) had a very good meet and I'm looking forward to seeing what she does the rest of the season. Rachel (Burston) dove very well despite coming off of an injury, but the highlight of the meet was Madeline (Kline) who dominated one and three-meter. She showed poise and consistency today, and has a very bright future ahead of her. I'm excited to see where we are after these next two meets and where this program his headed."
Harrison Mitchell and James Brady finished second and third on the three-meter dive with scores of 298.50 and 283.42, in respective order, while Stewart Spanbauer took fourth with a 214.10.
On the one-meter competition Mitchell and Spanbauer earned a one-two finish with final marks of 347.00 and 293.77, respectively, and Brady placed fourth with a 248.25. Mitchell's one-meter performance marks a season best.Â
On the women's side Madeline Kline won both events, as she posted a score of 274.50 on the one-meter dive and a mark of 268.42 on the three-meter competition. Rachel Burston placed second on one-meter with a season high 258.91 and placed third on three-meter with a total of 237.52.
Bailey Revels also represented the Pack on the women's side, finishing sixth on three-meter with a total of 209.77 and seventh on one-meter with a season-best score of 227.97.
NC State will be back in action Jan. 27 and 28 as it hosts UNC-Chapel Hill and Virginia inside Casey Aquatic Center. The dual with the Tar Heels on the 27th is set for a 5 p.m. start, and the meet with the Cavaliers on the 28th will commence at 4 p.m.
