No. 23/22 NC State Leads Early, Falls Late at No. 26/24 Syracuse

All five Wolfpack starters score 10 points or more

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 23/22 NC State women's basketball team (13-5, 3-2 ACC) led for 31:27 but ultimately fell 85-75 at No. 26/24 Syracuse Thursday evening inside the Carrier Dome.
All five NC State starters scored at least 10 points, but the Wolfpack was bested by a historic night from Syracuse's Alexis Peterson (school record 45 points). In addition to shooting 6-10 from distance, Peterson made more free throws (17) than NC State's entire team attempted (13) throughout the course of the 40 minutes.
NC State never trailed in the contest until Peterson hit a three pointer to make it 65-62 in favor of the Orange (13-5, 4-1 ACC) with 6:33 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Orange did not trail again, scoring 23 of the game's final 36 points to earn the win.

Nelson led the Wolfpack with 10 points on spotless 5-5 shooting from the field, while Ashley Williams (nine points on 3-5 shooting from distance) was not far behind. With her third made field goal 40 seconds into the second quarter, Williams scored her 500th point at NC State, highlighting an impressive journey which has seen her begin her NC State career as a walk-on and work her way into a regular part of the starting rotation for the last two seasons.
NC State returns to Raleigh to host No. 12/15 Duke on Kay Yow Court inside Reynolds Coliseum on Sunday, Jan. 15. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. with television coverage provided by the ACC's Regional Sports Network affiliates and ACC Network Extra.
