Q: Coming from Southern Pines, was it important for you to stay in state?
A: It was really important for me to go to a school that was close to where I grew up. I wanted to come here and play for such a big school in this state and be a hometown boy.
Q: How has the transition been to new offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford?
A: It has been good, he is a really good coach. He has played in the NFL for many years, so he has a lot of experience and he knows what he is doing. The transition for us has been good thus far, and we continue to improve each time we are out there.
Q: You got the start at Old Dominion last year, but then missed some time with injury. How frustrating was it not to be able to play?
A: It is so frustrating anytime you can't be out there on the field. Last year I thought I worked myself up and was ready, but then I got hurt. It was frustrating, but I was there to support my teammates and did what I could to help them out and keep them going.
Q: You graduated from high school early, and enrolled in January of 2012. How much of a benefit was it for you both on the field and in the classroom?
A: It was a huge benefit to come here early, I got to get ahead in school. Just getting here early allowed me to already graduate and start working towards my masters. It put me so far ahead, I'm really glad I graduated early.
Q: You've been named to the ACC Honor Roll, how important are academics to you?
A: My mom made academics a big deal to me when I was growing up, so it's very important to me. To play football, I had to do well in school. I got my first A- in ninth grade, and she almost made me quit playing football, she was that serious about me doing well in school.
Q: The Pack's defensive line is an obvious strength for the team. How big will their impact be this season?
A: We are expecting them to play good, but they are probably expecting even more from themselves. Competing everyday against those guys in practice is making them better and making us as an offensive line better. We need those guys to keep doing what they are doing to have a good season.
Q: You played both offense and defense in high school, how much do you miss playing defense?
A: Honestly, they might of put me in at outside linebacker a little bit, in some sub packages. That was fun, but I played offensive line my whole life and that is where I have always wanted to be.
Q: You already earned your degree in accounting, and now you are enrolled in a master's program for accounting. What is your plan after college with your degree?
A: I've been lucky not to have to worrying about what will happen after this season. I already have a job offer back in March from a firm here in Raleigh, so I will be staying around. I've been in school for five years, and I just love it here.
