Men’s Tennis Completes Day Two at James Bonk

CARY, N.C. – Four from the NC State men's tennis team continued play at the Duke James Bonk Invitational Saturday afternoon at Cary Tennis Park. The Pack picked up five singles wins and three doubles wins during the second day of the tournament.
Georgiy Malyshev earned his first career Wolfpack singles victory with a win over Florida's David Sarkissov, 6-2, 6-0 in the consolation quarterfinals. Malyshev then narrowly fell to UNC's Robert Kelly in the semifinals, 7-6(3), 7-5. He will play Vincent Lin of Duke in his final match of tournament Sunday for consolation third place in the white draw.
Igor Saveljic advanced to the blue draw consolation finals with a pair of straight set wins. Saveljic defeated Valparaiso's Jeffrey Schorsch 6-3, 6-2 then knocked off Maxime Hinnisdaels in the semis, 6-3, 6-4. He is set for a consolation final against Mario Paccini Sunday.
In the black draw, both Michael Ogden and Sean Burnette advanced to the semifinals but fell in tough matches. The duo will conclude the James Bonk Invite playing against each other in a third-place match Sunday.
Ogden defeated Charlotte's Alejandro Garcia, 6-3, 7-5 before falling to Carles Sarrio of Auburn 6-1, 6-2. Burnette took down Chad Hoskins of UNC, 6-1, 6-2 before falling to North Florida's Jonathan Deautriell 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, Burnette and Saveljic finished third in the consolation draw. The duo fell 8-7(6) against Sarkissov and Jordan Belga from Florida before defeating Duke's Jason Lapidus and T.J. Pura 8-6.
In round robin play, Ogden and Malyshev defeated Jefta Kecic and Lasse Muscheites from North Florida 8-6.
