Pack Opens Play at Cary Tennis Championships

CARY, N.C. – Members of the NC State men's tennis team opened play at the Cary Tennis Championships over the weekend and early this week. Alexis Galarneau highlighted singles qualifying play for the current squad by advanced onto the second round of the qualifying draw with a huge win over World No. 569 Tigre Hank of Mexico, 6-3 6-2.
Former Wolfpacker James McGee advanced through the qualifying round and into the main draw. It marks his second time in as many tournaments advancing into the main draw from singles qualifying. He defeated three consecutive opponents, including notching a pair of straight set wins to advance.
Michael Ogden, Ivan Saveljic, Igor Saveljic and Georgiy Malyshev dropped matches in qualifying to close out their first tournament.
Ogden fell to Erick Crepaldi of Italy, while Igor narrowly lost in a third set tiebreaker to South African Tucker Vorster. Ivan fell to Robert Kelly and Malyshev dropped his opening match to McGee.
The Saveljic twins continued play on Monday with in the doubles main draw. The duo advanced to the draw after earning a wild card bid. They fell to No. 3 seed Sekou Bangoura and Mitchell Krueger in the opening round.

Wolfpacker Nick Horton is scheduled to compete in the singles main draw and faces a big first-round test against World No. 175 Ernesto Escobedo Monday in the third match after a 12 p.m. start at Cary Tennis Park. Last year Horton faced then World No. 111 John-Patrick Smith in the main draw at the tournament.
