
McGee Advances to Singles Main Draw At Winston-Salem Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Former Wolfpacker and current tennis professional James McGee has advanced from the qualifying round and into the singles main draw of 16 at the Winston Salem Open.
McGee, ranked No. 272 in the ATP, defeated No. 145 Michael Berrer, 6-3, 6-2 to advance into the main draw.
The Irishman will face No. 77 Aljaz Bedene Monday afternoon in the opening round. His match is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Court 5 at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. Fans can follow along on WatchESPN or with live stats.
McGee is 15-13 for the year on the ATP Challenger tour and is making his 2016 ATP World Tour debut. He is coming off quarterfinal appearances at the Challenger Banque Nationale De Granby and the Nordic Naturals Challenger.
In 2016, he has defeated 13 individuals ranked in the ATP top 250 lists and has won $48,010 in prize money. Overall he has 193 ATP points.
McGee competed as a key member of the Wolfpack's 2007 squad that advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, before earning All-ACC honors following his sophomore season in 2008.
