RALEIGH, N.C. – Maciek Sykut has been hired as the new NC State men's tennis assistant coach, as announced Friday by head coach Jon Choboy.
Sykut rejoins the program in a full-time capacity. He previous served as the volunteer assistant with the program from 2012-2014.
"We're proud to announce the addition of Maciek Sykut as our new Men's Tennis Assistant Coach," said Choboy. "Sykut is no stranger to the Wolfpack tennis program as he served as our volunteer coach a couple of years ago. Sykut was the first person we spoke with when our assistant coaching position became open. We have very specific criteria and a high standard for the position and Sykut fills each one of them. Aside from being a great competitor in the ACC and former ATP tour player, Sykut has a wealth of teaching and coaching experience. We also wanted someone who will serve as a positive role model and mentor to our team members and Maciek fills that role very well. I'm very happy to have Sykut join our staff and excited about the future of the program."
"I would like to thank Mat Cloer for his time and dedication to our men's tennis program as assistant coach the past four years. We look forward to continuing to work with Mat as he moves back into private coaching and teaching world."
Sykut had boasted success at every level in tennis. Collegiately, he played at Florida State from 2005-2009 and finished top five in school history in both singles and doubles wins.
On the ATP circuit, Sykut has a career high singles ranking of 578 and career high doubles ranking of 145. During his career, he won a pair of ATP Challenger doubles titles.
Previously, Sykut was the director of junior tennis at North Ridge Country Club. He is the latest addition to the team, which currently features a three-athlete recruiting class.
