Pack swimmer posts second top-16 finish at meet
OMAHA, Neb.- NC State swimming and diving's Christian McCurdy notched a lifetime-best performance in the 200 butterfly on Tuesday evening at the 2016 United States Swimming Olymic Trials to finish 11th in the overall event standings.
Â
McCurdy touched the wall at 1:57.76 in the semifinals, shaving more than a second off of his entry time to improve his placement by five spots. In the prelims he posted a time of 1:58.70 to finish 16th.Â
Â
This marks the second top-16 performance of the week inside the CenturyLink Center for McCurdy, as he also finished 16th in the 400 individual medley on Sunday.
"We're proud of Christian for an excellent semifinals tonight. He swam a best time and was very close to making the finals. He swam a good race this morning but came out tonight with even more passion and represented NC State the best that he could," said head coach Braden Holloway.
After three days in Omaha NC State has had two swimmers advance to a championship final and four to a semifinal.
The Pack will return to action at the Olympic Trials Wednesday, as prelims will begin at 11 am ET and the evening session will commence at 8 pm ET. Coverage for prelims can be found on NBCOlympics.com and NBCSN, while each evening session will be broadcast on NBC.
