Norenius Set for NCAA Singles Championship

RALEIGH, N.C. Simon Norenius will begin play at the NCAA Singles Championships Wednesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. at 5 p.m. against Elliott Orkin of Florida.
Norenius concluded the dual season ranked 55th in the ITA poll and was named to the All-ACC team and the ITA Carolina Region Senior Player of the Year. Norenius amassed a 25-10 season record and defeated six ranked opponents. His 75 singles win rank 11th in school history and his 49 doubles wins are eighth in school history.
His opponent, Orkin, has also had a successful season, notching a 29-12 record for the year with 16 wins this dual season. Orkin is ranked 37th in the latest ITA poll and has played at the No. 2 singles position for most of the year. He is also a two-time All-SEC selection with the Gators.
With a win, Norneius will face the winner between No. 8 seed Ryan Shane of Virginia and Andre Goransson of California. Norenius faced off against Shane in his last match in the ACC Championship Quarterfinals. The match was tied at one set a piece when it was left unfinished.
The NCAA Singles Championship runs six consecutive days with a round each day. The National Champion will be crowned May 30.
