Junior was the only player in the nation with 15 or more home runs and 25 or more stolen bases during the regular season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – NC State softball's Tyler Ross has been named to the 2016 Division I All- Southeast Region Team, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Thursday.
Â
The Wolfpack had a player selected to the all-region team for the second consecutive year, as former standouts Renada Davis and Emily Weiman earned the honor last season.
Â
Ross turned in a phenomenal junior season, breaking the program record with 55 runs scored and 27 stolen bases. She also led the team with a .380 batting average, the second highest in program history. The Wolfpack's starting left fielder also paced the squad in home runs (18), hits (65), doubles (10), total bases (131) and slugging percentage (.766).
Â
The Cameron, N.C., native was the only player among division I softball programs to finish the regular season with 15 or more home runs and 25 or more stolen bases. She is also the first player in NC State history to accomplish the feat.
Â
Ross tallied 17 multi-hit games to lead the team in that category and added 11 multi-RBI games despite batting leadoff or second in the order for most of the year. Clutch when it mattered the most, she compiled a team-best batting average of .429 with runners in scoring position.
Â
Additionally, the all-region honoree hit .600 with the bases loaded, .370 with two outs in the inning and had a team-high 20 RBI with two outs.
Â
Ross finished the season ranked 11th in the NCAA and tied for the ACC lead with 18 home runs.
Â
At the conclusion of the regular season, Ross ranked among the top 10 in the conference in nine offensive categories: batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, hits, runs batted in (RBI), home runs, total bases and stolen bases.
Â
Ross will be one of seven starters returning to the NC State lineup for the 2017 season and a talented recruiting class will join them.
