LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 42 NC State men's tennis team defeated Louisville, 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville. The Wolfpack improves to 15-11 (4-5 ACC) and Louisville falls to 11-13 (0-8 ACC).
With the victory, NC State closes in on the all-time series record between the two programs. Louisville currently holds a 4-3 advantage.
No. 85 Thomas Weigel earned his 20th win of the spring season, which vaults him into the top-10 lists for most wins in a spring season. He is currently 7th in school history with 20 wins this spring.
Match Recap:
Louisville took the doubles point winning on courts two and three. Weigel and Simon Norenius earned a win at the top spot for their seventh victory of the season. Weigel leads the team with 15 doubles wins this season and is up to 6th on the Pack's all-time doubles wins.
NC State answered quickly in singles play, jumping out to first-set wins on five of the six courts. The Pack tied the match, as Weigel added his historic 20th win of the season.
Louisville answered back, going up 2-1 with a victory at No. 5 singles. From there, the Pack rattled off three-straight wins to clinch the decision and comeback for the second time in the match.
Shoti Meparidze won in straight sets on court six, Igor Saveljic won on court four, and No. 77 Nick Horton picked up a straight-set win on court five to clinch the result.
Louisville took a win at the top spot to earn its third point of the match, as No. 44 Simon Norenius fell in three sets.
