RALEIGH, N.C. - After one of the best seasons in school history, @PackWrestle head coach Pat Popolizio was named the 2016 National Coach of the Year by FloWrestling.com.
Among the Pack's many accomplishments in 2015-16:
• NC State's 11th place finish in 2016 was the best finish since 1993, and the sixth time the Pack has placed 11th or better in the history of the program.
• Over the last three seasons, NC State has improved its finish at the NCAA Championships each year - 19th in 2014, 16th in 2015 and 11th in 2016
• NC State has not had three top-20 finishes in a row since 1991-93 until this current stretch.
• NC State's three All-Americans this season tie as the most in school history (1992). The Wolfpack has not had an All-American in three straight years since 1991-93, and the total of six All-Americans over the last three seasons is the most in a three-year span since 1991-93.
• NC State tied a school record with having eight NCAA qualifiers this season. The Pack also had the second-most seeded wrestlers (six) and the most seeded fifth or higher in their weight class (four).
• In head coach Pat Popolizio's first four seasons, he has had 21 NCAA qualifiers overall - the most in a four-year span at NC State since also having 21 from 1998-01.
• NC State won its first ACC team title since 2007. The four individual ACC champions were also the most since 2007.
• NC State finished the season ranked No. 2 in the final NWCA/USA Today Wrestling Coaches Poll, the highest ranking in school history.
• NC State finished 23-1 in duals, setting both a NC State and ACC record for most wins in a single season. The 23 wins also led the NCAA this season.
• NC State was 9-1 versus ranked teams, including a perfect 3-0 versus top-five foes.
• NC State became the first team in NCAA history to win at both Oklahoma State and Iowa in the same season. NC State also became the first ACC team to ever defeat Iowa.
