Earns sixth ACC win of the season with victory over Boston College Sunday
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - No. 38 NC State women's tennis set a new program record Sunday when it defeated No. 64 Boston College 4-3 for its sixth conference victory of the season, the most collected during a single season in program history.
The Pack rallied during singles play to make a victorious comeback after it dropped the doubles point to the Eagles early in the match. Martina Frantova and Tayla Stenta did acquire a 6-2 win over BC's No. 1 duo of Lexi Borr and Jackie Urbinati but it wasn't enough to clinch the decision as the Eagles succeeded at No. 2 and No. 3.
No. 51 Frantova netted her 12th victory over a nationally-ranked opponent and her third-consecutive win with a straight-set defeat of No. 70 Asiya Dair, 6-4, 6-2. Frantova closed her first dual season with the Wolfpack 14-9, 10-9 doubles.
Joanna Nalborska captured a 6-3, 6-1 win over Borr to close her regular-season career with the Pack. On Friday, the team celebrated its annual Senior Day in its final home match of the season where Nalborska also collected a win over Wake's Emma Davis to help the Red and White nab a 5-2 victory over No. 27 Wake Forest.

In her second-consecutive appearance in the lineup, Barbara Mancera proved powerful once again, downing Wan-Yi Sweeting 6-4, 6-3, tallying back-to-back straight-set victories. But it was Amanda Rebol who clinched the dual for the Wolfpack Sunday. After splitting sets 6-4, 3-6, Rebol powered through the final set to capture a 6-2 win and succeed the Pack 4-3 over the Eagles.
Along with finishing the regular season 6-8 in the ACC for a new program best, the Pack improves 14-10 overall, the winningest record in three seasons.
SIMON SAYS:
"I couldn't be prouder of our team effort today, coming from behind and managing to survive a really tough match environment. I thought given the relative lack of experience of our group, we handled ourselves admirably and never gave up, which has been a hallmark of our season. I hadn't really thought about the number of ACC wins and the fact that we have advanced the team a little further than ever before is a testament to the potential not just that this team and program has, but that NC State has. I am confident there is a lot more to come and that, in the bigger picture, we are really just starting out.
"Lately we've seen a big improvement in doubles but after having an early lead, especially at No.3 doubles, we let things slip and need to do a better job converting our opportunities. In singles play both Joanna and Martina played probably their best team matches of the year right when we needed them. It might not have been their best individual performance but circumstantially they really knuckled down and knocked out their points against two very good players, which enabled us to regain the initiative. Barbara did a nice job again gaining the third point. At that stage Bianca was down in the third but Amanda has proven tough all season long in tight matches and again she showed her survival qualities, clinching in a game where she was down 0-40. Overall, the team did a great job and it's a great way to finish the regular season. We're eager to get back to work, especially now that we are finally regaining our health again and looking forward to the ACC tournament starting out in Cary on Wednesday." - Simon Earnshaw, head coach
