No. 42 Wolfpack Falls to No. 75 Duke, 5-2

RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 42 NC State men's tennis team fell to No. 75 Duke, 5-2 at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center Friday afternoon. The Wolfpack move to 15-11 (3-5 ACC) on the year, while the Blue Devils improve to 11-10 (4-3 ACC).
Match Recap:
The Wolfpack dropped the doubles point after Duke picked up close wins on courts one and two. Jason Lapidus and Daniel McCall clinched the point in the tiebreak.
In singles, NC State and Duke split the opening sets with Duke winning courts one, two and four. The Pack earned a few hard-fought first-set wins on courts three, five and six.
Duke continued its strong play in singles and extended its lead over the Pack with victories at the top-two spots in the lineup. No. 44 Simon Norenius' three-match win streak was halted, as No. 19 Nicolas Alvarez edged the senior in two sets.
The Blue Devils then clichéd the result as TJ Pura defeated Igor Saveljic 7-6(4), 6-2 on court four. Igor served out of one match-point before he was unable to break Pura's serve.
Duke added another point as Ivan Saveljic fell in a close match on court five. Josh Levine of Duke went three sets with the freshman to escape in a shortened-format third set, winning 5-7, 6-4, 1-0.
NC State added points on the final two courts, as No. 77 Nick Horton and Shoti Meparidze battled in close sets, both winning in tiebreakers. Horton added a 7-6(2), 7-6(3) result over Vincent Lin and Meparidze defeated McCall, 7-5, 7-6(5).
The victory gives Horton 13 dual season wins and 19 overall wins this season.
