RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer head coach Tim Santoro today announced the addition of Tom Anagnost (uh-Nag-Nist) to the program as an assistant coach.
"We are very fortunate to add such an experienced and successful person like Tom to the program," Santoro said. "When you rebuild a program, you want everything to be the best it can be and that goes beyond the players to the staff as well. Recruiting has gone well these first few cycles, but I want more, with the best possible coaches for these players. We've done that and then some."
Anagnost boasts five years of NCAA Division I head coaching experience and joins the Wolfpack from the University of Michigan, where he was a volunteer assistant for the Wolverines during the 2015 season. Michigan posted a 12-7-2 record (6-3-2 Big Ten) and advanced to the second round of the conference tournament last year.
Prior to assisting at Michigan, Anagnost was the head coach of the University of Miami (Fla.) women's soccer program from 2011-13. He led the Hurricanes to a combined 19-15-5 record and two straight NCAA Tournaments, including the program's first trip to the NCAA second round. Under his direction, Miami qualified for the ACC Tournament for the first time in five years, setting school records of fewest goals allowed in a season (19) and shutouts in a season (11).
Before his time in Coral Gables, Fla., Anagnost was the head coach of the Central Michigan program in the Mid-American Conference. His teams went a combined 45-12-7 and earned two NCAA Tournament berths. Anagnost was named MAC Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009.
Prior to his NCAA coaching experience, Anagnost spent eight years at the high school level. He coached the Bay City John Glenn program (1999-2003), Heritage (2000-03), and Flint Powers Catholic (2003-07).
As a player, Anagnost was a three-time NCAA Division III All-American at Kalamazoo College (1992-95). He graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1995 and later went on to earn a teaching certificate from Saginaw Valley State in 2003. In 2011, he was inducted into the Kalamazoo College Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions over his outstanding four-year career.
Upon graduation from Kalamazoo, Anagnost played professionally for the Chicago Power of the National Professional Soccer League in 1995 and for the Michigan Bucks of the United States Indoor Soccer League in 1996.
