Gymnastics Sends Three To NCAA Regional Championships

NC State to compete at Athens regional
INDIANPOLIS- Chelsea Knight, Brittni Watkins and Nicole Wild of the NC State gymnastics team have been selected to compete at the NCAA Athens (Ga.) Regional Championship, as announced by the NCAA committee Monday afternoon.

Hosted by Georgia, the site championship will be held April 2 inside Stegeman Coliseum with a 4 p.m. start time.

Watkins will travel as an all-arounder while Knight will compete on vault and Wild on beam. Additionally, Knight was selected as an alternate in the all-around competition.

Along with the Bulldogs, Arizona, George Washington, LSU, Michigan State and Oregon State will compete in the team competition, while select members from Maryland, Towson, UNC-Chapel Hill and William and Mary will join the Wolfpack in the individual competition.

NCAA Regional Selection
The top 36 teams based on their RQS advance to the NCAA Regional competition and are seeded by the league committee. Included in the championship field are also 24 all-around competitors and 48 individual event specialists, all of whom are not on a qualifying team.

Six Regionals consisting of six, teams, four all-arounders and two individual event specialists (not on a qualifying team) will compete at the predetermined campus sites.

NCAA Championship Qualification
A total of 12 teams and 12 all-around competitors and event specialists will advance to the NCAA Championship, held April 15-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. The top two teams and top two all-around competitors from each regional will receive and automatic berth to the national championship. In addition, event winners of each rotation at the six regional sites will advance (in that event only).
