Freshman Cheyenne Balzer hits her first collegiate home run

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team concluded play in the DoubleTree RDU Challenge with an 8-0 run-rule victory against Delaware State Sunday afternoon at Dail Stadium.

The Wolfpack moves to 12-11 on the season, while the Hornets fall to 7-12. NC State collected its third shutout and third run-rule victory of the year in the contest.

The Pack also defeated Delaware State for the second time in the challenge, as the Wolfpack beat the Hornets, 12-0, on Friday.

Quick Hits
- Cheyenne Balzer gave NC State a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second, after hitting the first home run of her Wolfpack career.
- Maggie Hawkins singled to start the inning for the Wolfpack and Hanna Sommer followed with a hit to put runners on first and second for Balzer.
- The freshman sent the second pitch of her at-bat sailing over the left field fence for a three-run homer.
- An error by Delaware State allowed NC State to plate its fourth run of the game, as Alyssa Compton scampered around the bases after an errant throw on a bunt single by Macauley Prickett.
- Tyler Ross drove in the fifth run of the game on an RBI single through the right side, scoring Prickett who singled to start the inning.
- After stealing second base, Ross scored on a single to center field by Molly Hutchison to extend the Wolfpack lead to 6-0.
- Brittany Nimmo joined the hit parade in the fifth with a single up the middle to plate Prickett from third base.
- NC State received an RBI walkoff single from Hannah Yeager, scoring Lana Van Dyken to give the Wolfpack the run-rule victory, 8-0.

- Prickett led the team at the plate with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate with two runs scored.
- Sommer was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while seven other Wolfpack batters had at least one hit in the contest.
