Sophomore collects second scholar-athlete mention
GREENSBORO, N.C. -Â NC State sophomore Kaitlyn Kearney has been named to the 2015 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team, announced Monday by the conference office.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career. The selection is also based on a student-athlete's athletic performance, as well as national and conference accolades.
The Frisco, Texas, native is majoring in business administration and was named to the Dean's List in the fall of 2015 with a semester GPA of 3.667, while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.494. The selection is the second in as many years for the NC State sophomore.
Athletically, Kearney was one of only two players on the 2015 squad to start all 32 matches. She finished the season with 302 kills, an average of 2.56 kills per set, which was the second most on the team.
Â
A force at the net, she led the Wolfpack in blocks for the second consecutive season with 149 to her credit, the fourth most in the ACC and 32nd in the nation.
Â
Kearney was named to the all-tournament team at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic hosted by Tulane, after posting 51 kills over a three-match span. She tallied a career best 19 kills against Tulane and matched her career high with 12 blocks in that contest.
Â
She notched double-digit kills in 14 matches and scored the second most points on the squad with 382.
