Mirabella Listed No. 20 Among Preseason Top 50 NCAA Softball Pitchers

Junior poised to lead the NC State pitching staff
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State junior Courtney Mirabella has been tabbed one of the top 50 pitchers in NCAA softball heading into the 2016 season, according to an announcement by Fastpitch News (FPN) Thursday.
The Bradenton, Fla., native is listed No. 20 in the ranking. FPN staff members derive the ranking from numerous statistics to formulate a total score, which accounts for a team's strength of schedule.
Mirabella is coming off a strong 2015 season in which she compiled a 7-5 record in the circle to go along with a 2.80 earned run average (ERA). She pitched 105 innings, struck out 130 batters, and threw seven complete games and two shutouts.
She averaged 8.7 strikeouts per seven innings pitched, the third most in the conference and 26th in the NCAA among Division I pitchers. Opposing batters managed just 5.33 hits per game against her, which was the fifth best in the ACC.
The junior hurler has thrown two no-hitters in her Wolfpack career and has fanned seven or more batters in a game 13 times.
NC State opens its 2016 campaign next Friday, Feb. 12 against Coastal Carolina in a tournament hosted by Jacksonville University. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m.
