SKILLMAN, N.J. – The NC State women's tennis team improved 21 spots to No. 44 in the latest national poll, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) office Tuesday afternoon. The team now holds its highest ranking since the 2012-13 season as well as the highest earned under head coach Simon Earnshaw since he began his tenure in 2014.
Â
Last weekend the Wolfpack swept its doubleheader with two 7-0 victories over FGCU and Elon. This was the team's second doubleheader sweep of the season as it defeated No. 42 William & Mary and VCU, both 4-3, at its previous doubleheader held in late January.

The Pack currently holds a 6-1 overall record with its sole loss to No. 13 LSU, 5-2, an improvement from its 7-0 loss to the then No. 37 ranked Tigers in 2015. The Wolfpack's level of competition against ranked opponents continues to show improvement having earned a 4-3 victory in its first ranked matchup of the season over No. 42 William & Mary.
Â
Last season the Red and White's only ranked victory came in the form of a 4-3 win over No. 67 Georgia State. Having acquired a more competitive resume so far this season, the Pack now faces two of its toughest opponents when it opens its conference slate February 26 at No. 36 Georgia Tech before taking on No. 34 Clemson two days later.
